Shirley was recently on a panel discussion with four other professionals discussing end-of-life care. The discussion followed the showing of a documentary called “Being Mortal.” The documentary is based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, MD, and is part of the national dialogue on end-of-life care. The event was held at Alpena Community College’s Granum Theatre.
One of the things Shirley talked about was about providing a sacred space where a person could share their fears, anxieties, and concerns in confidentiality while being reminded of God’s never-failing presence with them, while they are in the end stages of their life. The event was well attended, and those who were there seemed to enjoy it. The film and the discussion gave us all lots to reflect and think about.
