On August 23, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Dr. Martin Luther King gave his famous “I Have a Dream Speech.” This speech was given during the “March on Washington” to demand equal rights for all, and this speech became the dream of a generation. During this speech Dr. King referred to this very powerful passage from Amos.
“We cannot be satisfied as long as a colored person in Mississippi cannot vote and a colored person in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote.
No, no we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
As you vote this year, and of course every year, may these words and other words from God’s Spirited-Filled Prophets, in our present time and those long ago, help move you to help justice and righteousness to flow freely to all of God’s creatures, especially to those who need it most. Peace, Vernon T.
