Shirley and I were blessed to have been able to attend the Easter Sunrise Service at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO today. This was on Shirley’s bucket list and we made it there the first Easter of her retirement. The service began at 6:00 A.M., which meant that we got there at 4:30 A.M. this morning when the gates opened. The service was sponsored by the Colorado Council of Churches, and the Rocky Mountain Synod of the ELCA was a contributing partner. There were about 10,000 people there; the sunrise, the worship service and the views were beautiful.
For those who don’t know, Red Rocks Park is west of Denver in the foothills of the mountains, about 6,450 feet above sea level. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon—the only naturally occurring, acoustically perfect Amphitheatre in the world. They have concerts there from April until well into the fall and countless very well-known individuals and musical groups have performed there since the late 1940s.
The Red Rocks are beautiful by themselves and the view of the city is awesome on a clear day, such as today. So being able to experience a worship service was off the charts!
